About the Partnership
Intersectional Environmentalist (IE), in partnership with The Eyes & Ears Agency, launched Earth Sessions: a series of intimate community-driven environmental justice concerts. These unique events embody the physical manifestation of IE’s digital work - combining art, education, and climate optimism - giving IE the opportunity to serve as a connector between their community and the grassroots initiatives they want to amplify. By bringing people together through the power of music, we sought to bridge the gap between people who want to take action and local environmental justice organizations that are actively working within their communities to make a difference.
Our inaugural event took place on April 21, 2022 in Brooklyn, NY at REGENCY - event venue and community space dedicated to regeneration and 100% renewably powered. The night featured performances by local artists, Charlie Burg and Maiya Blaney, as well as an educational panel moderated by IE Founder and President, Leah Thomas, featuring the founders of NY-based NGOs, Tony Hillery (Harlem Grown) and Kofi Thomas (Good Life Garden). Through a powerful conversation that focused on themes of food justice, the impacts of local action, urban agriculture and the importance of food sovereignty, our featured panelists provided attendees with an opportunity to learn about environmental justice efforts in their local community. We are so excited to continue fostering Earth Sessions and building spaces for art and activism to co-exist and shape our collective future.
This event was made possible by the incredible support of our sponsors Sierra Club, Earthjustice, Surfrider Foundation, and The Shawn Mendes Foundation.
